Custom Design Process
Every custom piece begins with a conversation. Whether you're nearby or across the world, I work seamlessly through a mix of virtual and in-person collaboration to bring your vision to life.
Custom jewellery is inherently more involved than ready-made pieces. You’re investing in thoughtful design, skilled craftsmanship, and something made specifically for you. It’s a slower, more intentional process — and that care is what gives the finished piece its depth and meaning.
As a general reference point: rather than thinking in terms of the cost of a special dinner out, custom work typically aligns more closely with the investment of a quality bicycle — and upward from there depending on materials and complexity.
1. Initial Consultation
We begin with your story.
I’ll ask about:
-
Timeline
-
Budget
-
Metal preferences
-
Gemstones (new or heirloom)
-
Ring size or necklace length
-
Design inspiration or references
This stage is about understanding not just what you want it to look like, but what you want it to represent.
2. Design Concept & Detailed Quotation
Using what you’ve shared, I develop a preliminary design concept.
You’ll receive:
-
A clear description of the proposed design
-
A detailed cost breakdown
-
Notes on incorporating heirloom materials, if applicable
Transparency is important. You’ll know exactly what goes into your piece before moving forward.
💛 A Note on Heirloom Materials & Custom Pricing
Precious metal markets are currently at historic highs. When I began working as a jeweller, silver traded around $6 CAD per ounce. Today, after currency exchange and refining or fabrication surcharges, sterling silver often exceeds $100 CAD per ounce. Gold prices have risen similarly and remain well above long-term historical averages.
Incorporating your own heirloom gold or gemstones (and, where appropriate, silver) can be a meaningful way to manage material costs while adding personal history to your piece.
Because metal prices fluctuate daily, all quotations reflect market rates at the time the estimate is prepared.
3. Acceptance & Deposit
Once you approve the design and quotation, a 50% deposit secures your project and allows production to begin.
Payment is typically made via e-transfer.
4. Visual Rendering
I create a detailed 3D rendering of your piece for review.
This ensures proportions, stone placement, and overall design feel exactly right before fabrication begins.
Revisions are made at this stage if needed.
5. Craftsmanship
With your final approval, your piece is carefully crafted and assembled.
Each step — from casting to setting to finishing — is completed with precision and attention to longevity. My goal is not just beauty, but durability.
6. Final Review & Payment
When your piece is complete, I’ll send detailed photographs for your final approval.
Once approved, the remaining balance is due prior to shipping or pickup.
7. Delivery
Your finished piece is carefully packaged and presented in a box, ready for gifting or wearing.
Most custom projects take approximately 3–8 weeks, depending on complexity and stone sourcing.
Ongoing Care
My relationship with you doesn’t end at delivery. I stand behind my work and am always available for resizing, refinishing, or future adaptations.
